Commentary
Token for Antoine de Vienne (1538-1590), son of François de Vienne (1515-1552) and Gillette de Luxembourg (granddaughter of Agnès Sorel, mistress of King Charles VII) and grandson of Girard de Vienne, Lord of Pymont, and Bénigne de Dinteville. Antoine was born on January 27, 1538 in Dijon and died in 1590. A knight of the king's orders, he was one of those who prevented the Saint Bartholomew's Day massacre in Dijon. Having received the king's mission to transmit the order for the massacre to the municipality of Dijon, he delayed his journey as much as possible, hoping for a counter-order, which eventually came. King Henry III elevated Commarin to the status of County in gratitude, for his benefit (the castle of Commarin still exists and can be visited, 40 km west of Dijon).
