L’année 2009 a été déclarée Année mondiale de l’Astronomie par l’Unesco et l’ONU à l’occasion du 400ème anniversaire de la première utilisation de la lunette astronomique par Galilée et du 40ème anniversaire du premier pas sur la Lune par Neil Armstrong. Pour commémorer cet événement la Monnaie de Paris a édité un pièce Belle Épreuve rehaussée d’une innovation technologique: une pièce bombée représentant le relief lunaire sur son revers convexe.
