La Monnaie de Paris frappe les monnaies des Français depuis l’an 864. Ses trésors, qui appartiennent au patrimoine, et son savoir-faire sont à l’origine de cette collection qui, de l’époque romaine à aujourd’hui retrace, en une vingtaine de pièces l’Histoire de France.
Cette monnaie, le Louis aux Palmes, fut frappé sous le règne de Louis XVI notamment pendant la guerre d’indépendance américaine.
