Historical background

FONTEIA

(85 BC)

Manius Fonteius, our moneyer, could be the urban quaestor (Quaestor Urbanus) in 84 BC. He would then be legate in Spain (Hispania Ulterior) in 81 BC, then legate in Macedonia in 77-76 before J.-C. before becoming praetor in 75 before J.-C. and finally legate propraetor in Narbonnaise Gaul in 74-72 before J.-C. (according to RE. II, 591, n°5).
