Coments on the condition:
Ce demi-écu est frappé sur un flan large laissant apparaître l'essentiel du grènetis extérieur. On doit noter un léger tréflage au droit. Les reliefs sont nets au niveau de la légende du revers mais apparaissent un peu plus faible sur le visage et le torse du comte

Obverse description : Louis de Male, assis de face, couronné, dans une stalle gothique, tenant l'épée levée de la main droite, la gauche posée sur un écu à l'aigle bicéphale, le tout dans un polylobe cantonné de petits trèfles, qui s'arrête à l'exergue.
Obverse translation : (Louis, par la grâce de Dieu, comte et seigneur de Flandre).
Reverse
Reverse legend : +. XPC: VINCIT: XPC: REGNAT: XP'C: INPERAT, (PONCTUATION PAR DEUX ANNELETS SUPERPOSÉS).
Reverse description : Croix trifoliée, dans un quadrilobe orné aux angles d'une feuille et cantonnée de quatre trèfles.
Reverse translation : (Le Christ vainc, le Christ règne, le Christ commande).

FLANDERS - COUNTY OF FLANDERS - LOUIS OF MALE
(1346-1384)
Louis de Male (1330-1384) is the son of Louis, Count of Flanders, killed at the Battle of Crécy (1346). He will try to maintain a policy of strict neutrality between the king of France and that of England. In 1382, he became count of Burgundy. Without a male heir, he married his daughter Marguerite to Philippe le Hardi, son of Jean le Bon, captured with his father at the battle of Poitiers in 1356 "Father keep to the right, father keep to the left". On the death of Louis de Male, Philippe le Hardi, who succeeded him, was at the origin of the great Burgundian estate. Louis de Male was also Count of Rethel.
