Commentary
Faux extrêmement curieux car à tranche striée mais avec des faces qui semblent authentiques. Des traces très fines de lime sur l’angle des listels peuvent laisser penser qu’il s’agit d’un travail particulièrement malicieux où deux pièces authentiques ont été arasées, le métal récupéré, puis les deux fines plaques collées sur un centre en plomb, la tranche striée étant réalisée ensuite. Il ne s’agit bien entendu en aucun cas d’un essai, malgré un poids remarquablement exact.

Very fine traces of a file on the corner of the strips may suggest that this is a particularly malicious work where two authentic pieces were leveled, the metal recovered, then the two thin plates glued onto a lead center, the grooved edge being made afterwards. This is of course in no way a test, despite a remarkably exact weight
