Monnaie sur un flan idéalement centré au droit mais légèrement décentré au revers. Usure régulière. Joli revers. Patine grise

Obverse legend : MENSOR/ S.C.
Obverse description : Buste diadémé et drapé de Libertas (la Liberté) à droite, portant boucles d'oreille et collier ; derrière, un bonnet de liberté et marque de contrôle ; le tout, entouré de la stemma, “corona infula”, (bandelette de laine).
Obverse translation : “Mensor Senatus Consulto”, (Mensor par Décret du Sénat).

Reverse


Reverse legend : L. FARSVLEI À L’EXERGUE.
Reverse description : Rome plutôt que Mars dans un quadrige à droite, invitant un personnage vêtu d'une toge à monter sur le char ; Rome tient une longue javeline de la main gauche ; au-dessous du quadrige, un petit scorpion.
Reverse translation : “Lucius Farsuleius”, (Lucius Farsuleius).

Commentary


Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de cinquante-et-un coins de droit et de cinquante-sept coins de revers. Pour ce type, le système de numérotation est assez complexe et va de I à LXXIII (1 à 73) avec plusieurs coins possibles pour un même chiffre et de nombreux numéros non utilisés. Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare que le second sans système de numérotation (RRC. 392/1b).

The gens Farsuleia is a Roman family of plebeian origin. In 75 BC, the consul Caius Aurelius Cotta voted the "lex Aurelia" restoring the powers of the tribunes of the plebs suppressed by Sylla.
