Commentary

L’Exposition universelle de 1884 s'est tenue à la Nouvelle-Orléans, en Louisiane. À l'époque, près d'un tiers du coton produit aux États-Unis était traité à la Nouvelle-Orléans et la Cotton Exchange était dans cette ville. L’idée de la foire a été avancée par la Cotton Planters Association. Le nom de World Cotton Centennial faisait référence au premier enregistrement d’exportation d’une cargaison de coton des États-Unis vers l’Angleterre en 1784.
Cette foire était également connue sous le nom d’Exposition universelle du centenaire de l’industrie et du coton.

Le rôle du directeur Edward A. Burke est assez contesté en ce qui concerne l’utilisation des sommes allouées par les USA à cette exposition....
The 1884 World's Columbian Exposition was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the time, nearly a third of the cotton produced in the United States was processed in New Orleans, and the Cotton Exchange was located there. The idea for the fair was put forward by the Cotton Planters Association. The name World Cotton Centennial refers to the first recorded export of a shipment of cotton from the United States to England in 1784. This fair was also known as the World's Cotton Centennial Exposition. The role of director Edward A. Burke is somewhat controversial regarding the use of the funds allocated by the United States for this exposition.
