Cette monnaie commémore le centenaire de la Statue de la Liberté inaugurée le 28 octobre 1886 en présence du président des États-Unis, Grover Cleveland. Elle fut longtemps le symbole de la Liberté et d’une nouvelle vie pour de nombreux immigrants arrivant à New York après la longue traversée de l’Océan Atlantique en bateau. De 1892 à 1954, les nouveaux immigrants passaient préalablement par l’île Ellis (Ellis Island).
This coin commemorates the centennial of the Statue of Liberty, which was unveiled on October 28, 1886, in the presence of U.S. President Grover Cleveland. For many immigrants arriving in New York after the long journey across the Atlantic Ocean by boat, it was a symbol of freedom and a new life.
