Commentary

La statue de la Liberté avait été offerte par la France grâce à Bartholdi (1834-1904) et Ferdinand de Lesseps. Elle fut inaugurée le 28 octobre 1886. Pour nous remercier, les Américians nous offirent en 1900, lors de l'Exposition Universelle une statue équeste de La Fayette qui fut placée dans la cour du Musée de Louvre dans un jardin qui bénéficiait de l'extraterritorialité.
The Statue of Liberty was donated by France thanks to Bartholdi (1834-1904) and Ferdinand de Lesseps. It was inaugurated on October 28, 1886. To thank us, the Americans offered us in 1900, during the Universal Exhibition, an equestrian statue of La Fayette which was placed in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum in a garden that benefited from extraterritoriality.
