Historical background

EASTERN LATIN STATES - COUNTY OF TRIPOLI - BOHEMOND V

(1231-1251)

After the death in 1187 of Raymond III who had no children, Bohemond IV (1187-1233) became count of Tripoli. He was the youngest son of Bohemond III of Antioch (1143-1201) who united the two principalities on the death of his father in 1201. Bohemond V succeeded him in 1233 and lived mainly in Tripoli, abandoning Antioch. His son, Bohémond VI (1252-1275) was the penultimate count of Tripoli and the last prince of Antioch which was taken by the Mamluks in 1268.
