The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) is the principal monetary institution of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), which comprises Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. Its headquarters are located in Dakar. It succeeded the French West Africa and Togo Issuing Institute. The Bank of France guarantees the convertibility of the CFA franc into the French franc and, from 1999, into the euro..
