SPAIN - KINGDOM OF VALENCIA - IER JACQUES SAYS "THE CONQUEROR"

(1238-1276)

Jacques I was born February 2, 1208 in Montpellier union of Peter II called "the Catholic" and Mary, Lady of Montpellier. King of Aragon, Count of Barcelona and Lord in Montpellier at the age of five years (1213), following the death of his father at the battle of Muret. He became king of the Kingdom of Majorca in 1229 and Valencia in 1232. He died July 27, 1276 during a campaign against Muslim rebels in Valencia. He was buried in the abbey of Poblet.
