Historical background

SPAIN - BALEARIC ISLANDS - FERDINAND VII

(1808-1833)

Ferdinand VII (1784-1808), after having been the ephemeral king from 1808, was relegated to France in Valencay until 1813. Returned to Spain in 1814, he abolished the Constitution but was obliged to restore it in 1820, after the revolt from Cadiz. It is in this context that these coins for the Balearic Islands were minted. 30 sous correspond to a duro of 5 pesetas.
