En 1992, la ville de Barcelone organise les Jeux Olympiques d’été. A cette occasion, plusieurs monnaies sont frappées dont cette monnaie de 50 Pesetas qui représente au revers la cathédrale de la Sagrada Familia, oeuvre imaginée et initiée par Antonio Gaudi en 1884. Sa construction devrait s’achever en 2026..
