EPIRUS - AMBRACIA

(360-338 BC)

The city was situated on a promontory at the bottom of the Gulf of Ambracia on the left bank of the Arachtus, 80 stadia from the coast (14 kms). The city was colonized by the Corinthians around 660 BC. Under Pyrrhus, it was the capital of the kingdom of Epirus.
