Flan un peu court avec une frappe centrée des deux côtés. Très beaux reliefs, avec une patine gris clair, un peu plus sombre au revers

Obverse description : Tête barbare, très stylisée à droite, les cheveux hirsutes ; le nez et l'œil marqués ; une croisette devant la bouche.

Reverse description : Carré perlé, avec un annelet pointé au centre.
Commentary
Ce type de tête avec le nez marqué et une croisette corresond aux monnaies de la variété D, mais le revers a normalzement un globule dans chaque coin du carré, et non pas seulement l’annelet ! Cette variante semble manquer, tant au catalogue de D. M. Metcalf qu’aux travaux de T. Abramson.

(7th - 8th centuries)
If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
