Historical background

EMPIRE OF TREBIZOND - JOHN II

(1280-1297)

The empire of Trebizond was founded by Alexis Comnenus, grandson of Andronicus I in 1204. It only collapsed in 1461, eight years after the fall of Constantinople. The reign of John II Comnenus is placed between that of Georges (1266-1280) and that of Alexis II (1297-1330). John II and Alexis II appear to have shared the throne while a Theodora assumed power around 1285.
