Exemplaire sur un flan large et ovale bien centré. Très beau buste d’Émilien. Revers de style fin. Jolie patine grise avec des reflets dorés. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Obverse description : Buste radié, drapé et cuirassé d'Émilien à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A2).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Æmilianus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L'empereur Émilien pieux et heureux auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : IOVI CONS-ERVAT.
Reverse description : Jupiter debout à gauche, tenant un foudre de la main droite et un sceptre de la main gauche ; à ses pieds, l’empereur.
Reverse translation : “Iovi Conservatori”, (Jupiter le protecteur).

Commentary


Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges invisibles sous le paludamentum. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages de référence. C’est la première fois que nous le proposons à la vente.

Emilia was governor of Moesia in 252, when Trebonianus Galle gave him the mission to push the Goths who had broken the Danubian limes. Emilian successful and he was proclaimed emperor by his troops. He walked over Italy and defeated Trebonianus Galle and Volusien Terni. Recognized by the Senate, he was finally assassinated in Spoleto by his soldiers who joined Valerian I..
