Faiblesse de frappe des deux côtés, mais droit de qualité avec la tête bien nette. Droit complet et revers légèrement décentré. Patine grise de collection

Commentary

Cette monnaie a la particularité d'avoir une tête bien nette au droit alors qua la plupart des oboles de ce type ont une masse plus ou moins informe en guise de tête. Les attributions de ces oboles semblent osciller dans la région des oppida d'Ensérune et de Montlaurès.

ELYSIQUES (oppidum of Ensérune)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Elysians are a small people from the Narbonne region, of Iberian origin whose oppidum could be identified with Ensérune. He is known to us by a mention of Herodotus, "the father of History", who indicates that Gallic mercenaries (Élysiques) would have served in the Carthaginian army in 480 BC, at the time of the siege of 'Himera (Sicily).
