Coments on the condition:
Monnaie sur un petit flan irrégulier, mais avec une très belle tête complet et un revers centré bien que de frappe molle. Épaisse patine sombre et brillante

Reverse description : Roue à rayons avec moyeu central et un bucrane à l’envers occupant les deux premiers cantons.

Commentary

Avec ce genre de tête à gauche et les lettres AM au lieu de MA au revers, cette obole correspond au IBL-163B du Dicomon.
Seulement six exemplaires de cette variété auraient été trouvées à Montlaurès et une à Pech-Maho.

Historical background

ELYSIQUES (oppidum of Ensérune)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Elysians are a small people from the Narbonne region, of Iberian origin whose oppidum could be identified with Ensérune. He is known to us by a mention of Herodotus, "the father of History", who indicates that Gallic mercenaries (Élysiques) would have served in the Carthaginian army in 480 BC, at the time of the siege of 'Himera (Sicily). Sources: Herodotus (H. VII, 165).
