Historical background

ELYMAIS - ELYMAIS KINGDOM - KAMNASKIRES IV

(c. 63/62 - 54/53 BC)

This small kingdom, located between Babylonia and Persis in the region of Susa. He managed to maintain his independence from his powerful Arsacid neighbors. Kamnaskires IV, of whom we know practically nothing, seems to have reigned in the first half of the first century BC when Pompey took over the East and made Syria a Roman province. The king seems to have sought the Roman alliance and the friendship of Pompey. Kamnaskires disappears when Crassus is killed at the Battle of Carrhes in 53 BC, defeated by General Suréna and King Parthia Orodes II (57-38 BC).
