Exemplaire sur un flan bien centré avec les grènetis visibles. Très beau buste d’Élagabal. Revers de haut relief. Belle patine de collection ancienne

Obverse description : Buste lauré d’Élagabal à droite drapé sur l’épaule (O*2) avec favoris.

Obverse translation : “Imperator Antoninus Pius Augustus”, (L’empereur Antonin pieux auguste).

Reverse legend : ABVNDA-NTIA AVG/ -|*// -.

Reverse description : Abundantia (l'Abondance) debout de face tournée à gauche tenant des deux mains une corne d'abondance dont elle déverse les fruits à gauche.

Reverse translation : “Abundantia Augusti”, (L’Abondance de l’auguste).

Commentary

Poids très léger. Petit pan de paludamentum visible de chaque côté du buste. Portrait tout à fait exceptionnel pour Élagabal. Rubans de type 2. Le favori est bien visible sur la tempe. C’est la deuxième fois que nous proposons à la vente un buste lauré avec pan de paludamentum sur l’épaule qui semble complètement inédit et non répertorié pour Élagabal. Manque à tous les ouvrages consultés (cf. MONNAIES 38, n° 727).
Very light weight. Small panel of paludamentum visible on each side of the bust. A truly exceptional portrait for Elagabalus. Type 2 ribbons. The sideburn is clearly visible on the temple. This is the second time we have offered for sale a laureate bust with a panel of paludamentum on the shoulder that appears to be completely unpublished and unlisted for Elagabalus. Missing from all the works consulted (see COINS 38, no. 727)
