Exemplaire sur un flan bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Beau portrait d’Élagabal. Joli revers de style fin. Belle patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Buste lauré et drapé d’Élagabal à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A*21).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Antoninus Augustus”, (L’empereur Antonin auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : TEMPORVM - FE-LICITAS.
Reverse description : Felicitas (la Félicité) debout de face, regardant à gauche, tenant un long caducée de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Temporum Felicitas”, (La Félicité des temps).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. Cette année est marquée par le mariage d’Élagabal avec Julia Paula, qui ne durera pas un an. Ce type de denier existe aussi avec le buste drapé et cuirassé. C’est le seul exemplaire que nous ayons proposé à la vente.

ELAGABALUS

(16/05/218-12/03/222)

Proclaimed emperor on May 16, 218, Elagabalus, sole august until the end of June or the beginning of July, left Syria to join Rome. Elagabalus stops at Nicomedia. He spent the whole winter there and fell ill. It was therefore in this city that he took up his second consulship. Elagabal will not arrive in Rome until July or September 219, bringing the black stone of his cult to install him in his capital. He will never return to Syria, quickly assassinated after an unequaled reign of turpitude and disorder.
