Macrinus, beaten on June 8, fled to Asia Minor. He was assassinated at the end of June or the beginning of July in Cappadocia. Elagabalus was proclaimed august on May 16, 218 thanks to his mother and grandmother who presented him as the son of Caracalla. After Macrinus' disappearance, Elagabalus leaves Syria to head for Rome, beginning a long journey that will not bring him to the Urbs until the following year..
