(221-205 BC)

Ptolemy IV (238-205 AC.) Is the son of Philip IV Euergetes and Berenice II. He received the title of Philopator (the friend of his father) in derision because he is accused of having poisoned. During his reign, it is Sosibios who actually ruled Egypt. He lost by 219 Seleucia Pieria he had to surrender to Antiochus III the Great, but the victory of Raphia in 217 BC restores balance and allowed him to recover Coelesyria the Seleucid.
