SCOTLAND - KINGDOM OF SCOTLAND - JOHN BALLIOL - MARY STUART

(1542-1567)

Mary Stuart (1542-1587), daughter of James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise, became Queen of Scotland at 7 days old. Raised at the court of France, she married the Dauphin, future François II. Widow of the King in 1560, she returned to Scotland. In 1565, she married Lord Darnley, father of James VI, who was assassinated two years later by her lover Bothwell, whom she married before having to abdicate in 1567. Refugee in England, she conspired against her cousin, Elizabeth. She was beheaded in 1587 at the Tower of London..
