Historical background

DOMITIUS AND DOMITIA

(81-96)

Domitia is the daughter of Corbulon, general of Nero driven to suicide (66). Domitian married her in 70 after Vespasian took Corbulo's daughter under his protection. Domitia received the title of Augusta in 82. At odds with the Emperor, she reconciled with him before compromising herself in his assassination in September 96. Returning to private life, she died under the reign of Antoninus Pius.
