Exemplaire sur un petit flan mince, un peu court sur la légende de droit. Beau portrait. Usure plus importante au revers sur l’autel. Patine de collection ancienne

Reverse description : Autel rectangulaire flanqué de deux aigles légionnaires ; à l’intérieur, nous avons deux soldats debout face à face dont l’un tient une haste et un bouclier ; devant chacune des aquilæ (aigles), un captif assis, les mains liées dans le dos.
Reverse translation : "Imperator duovicesimum Consul septimum decimum Censor Perpetuus Pater Patriæ", (Revêtu de la vingt-deuxième salutation impériale consul pour la dix-septième fois censeur perpétuel père de la patrie).
Commentary
Poids léger. Rubans de type 3. Le revers représente un autel qui pourrait être celui des Prétoriens d’après P. V. Hill (p. 65, n° 109). Ce denier a fait l’objet d’un article dans le Bulletin Numismatique (BN. n° 20, avril 2006, p. 18). Ce denier semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent paraître les ouvrages généraux.
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbons. The reverse depicts an altar that could be that of the Praetorians according to PV Hill (p. 65, no. 109). This denarius was the subject of an article in the Bulletin Numismatique (BN. no. 20, April 2006, p. 18). This denarius seems much rarer than general works suggest.

Augustus
Domitian, born in 51, became august in 81, succeeding his brother. In 86, the Capitoline games were organized for the first time. The Flavian Palace is erected on the Palatine. In 88, the secular games were celebrated with pomp. A first campaign is launched on Dacia which ends with a peace of compromise, leaving Decebalus master of the situation. Domitian has just won a brilliant campaign against the Sarmatians and the Suevi (IMP XXII). Agricola died in disgrace on August 23, 93. In 95, Domitian had Flavius Clemens, his cousin, executed. The following year, Domitian will be assassinated at the instigation of his wife and the prefect of the Praetorium.
