Reverse description : Phanabal (dieu de la guerre), vêtu militairement debout à gauche, brandissant une épée de la main droite lévée et un petit bouclier rond avec une palme de la main gauche.
Reverse legend : AS/ HRR
Reverse translation : (Ascalon/ an 198).

Commentary


Au revers, le dieu est censé tenir une harpe alors qu’ila effectivement en main, une épée. Les auteurs du Roman Provincial Coinage ont recensé vingt-deux exemplaires avec un poids moyen de 6,50 g.
On the reverse, the god is supposed to be holding a harp, while in fact he has a sword in his hand. The authors of the Roman Provincial Coinage have recorded twenty-two examples with an average weight of 6.50 g.

Augustus

Domitian, born in 51, became august in 81, succeeding his brother. In 86, the Capitoline games were organized for the first time. The Flavian Palace is erected on the Palatine. In 88, the secular games were celebrated with pomp. A first campaign is launched on Dacia which ends with a peace of compromise, leaving Decebalus master of the situation. Domitian has just won a brilliant campaign against the Sarmatians and the Suevi (IMP XXII). Agricola died in disgrace on August 23, 93. In 95, Domitian had Flavius Clemens, his cousin, executed. The following year, Domitian will be assassinated at the instigation of his wife and the prefect of the Praetorium.
