Historical background

DOMBES - PRINCIPALITY DOMBES - HENRI II OF MONTPENSIER

(1592-1608)

The currency issue ceased in the Dombes to the death of Peter II in 1503. The lordship of Dombes is given to Louise de Savoie and attached to the kingdom after his death in 1531. In 1560, the king of France, Francis II, restores Louis II de Bourbon-Montpensier, son of Louise de Montpensier (1561) sister of the Constable Charles de Bourbon, and erects the lordship of Trévoux principality. Typing only resumed under Louis II de Bourbon-Montpensier (1560-1582) and ended very late in the second half of the seventeenth century. Bourbon-Montpensier descended from Robert de Clermont, son of St. Louis. The family of Bourbon-Montpensier will reign over the Dombes until the year 1693.
