Exemplaire sur un flan centré à l’usure régulière. Patine grise avec des reflets métalliques

Obverse description : Buste de Dioclétien radié à droite, avec cuirasse et pan de paludamentum, vu de trois quarts en avant (A).
Obverse translation : "Imperator Caesar Caius Valerius Diocletianus Pius Felix Augustus".

Reverse legend : IOVI CONS-ERVAT// PXXIT.
Reverse description : Jupiter nu debout à gauche avec le manteau déployé derrière lui, tenant un foudre de la main droite et un sceptre de la gauche ; à ses pieds, un aigle.
Reverse translation : "Iovi Conservatori" (A Jupiter le protecteur).

After abdication
Diocletian compelled his colleague Maximian to abdicate on May 1, 305, Galerius and Constantius becoming augusts and the two former augusts receiving the titles of Beatissimo and Felicissimo. Maximian retired to his estates in Italy. He accepted his retirement badly and returned to service to help his son Maxence, after 306, before falling out with him the following year. Diocletian, as "Senior Augusti", organized the last chance conference to save the Tetrarchy at Carnuntum on November 11, 308. He then retired to Salona (Split) where he died in 313 or 316, possibly assassinated.
