Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type sur un flan ovale, bien centré avec les grènetis visibles. Très beau portrait particulier. Revers de style fin avec un petit plat sur la tête. Magnifique patine gris métallique avec des reflets dorés. Conserve son brillant de frappe et son coupant d’origine

Reverse legend : IOV-I A-VGG/ -|-// A.

Reverse description : Jupiter nu debout à gauche, le manteau sur l'épaule, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et un sceptre long de la main gauche ; à ses pieds, un aigle debout à gauche, tournant la tête à droite.

Reverse translation : “Iovi Augustorum”, (Au Jupiter des augustes).

Commentary

Avec l’intégralité de son argenture superficielle. Rubans de type 3 très particulier, formé d’un seul ruban bifide. Robe consulaire constituée de la toga picta et de la toga palmata richement décorée. Sur cet exemplaire, Dioclétien semble avoir les traits de Maximien Hercule.
With all of its surface silvering. Very particular type 3 ribbons, formed of a single bifid ribbon. Consular robe consisting of the toga picta and the richly decorated toga palmata. In this example, Diocletian appears to have the features of Maximian Hercules.
