Obverse description : Faisceau de licteur duquel sort une main de justice, entouré de deux cornes d’abondance ; à l’exergue MDCCCXLVIII, le tout dans une couronne de chêne.

Commentary
Médaille attribuée en 1848 à Alexandre-François Vivien en tant que député de l’Aisne. Il naquit à Paris le 3 juillet 1799 et y mourut le 7 juin 1854. Après des études de droit, il exerça comme avocat à Amiens puis le 10 août 1830 fut nommé procureur général près de la Cour royale d’Amiens. En charge de la préfecture de police de Paris en 1831, il fut renvoyé la même année et nommé conseiller d’État le 17 septembre 1831. En 1833, il est élu député de l’Aisne en remplacement de Niay, démissionnaire. Il fut réélu député à plusieurs reprises (1834, 1837, 1839, 1842, 1846 et 1848). Sous Thiers il fut nommé ministre de la Justice et des cultes (1er mars-29 octobre 1840). Le 13 octobre 1848 il fut nommé ministre des Travaux publics et il laissa son portefeuille lorsque Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte accéda à la présidence de la République.

In charge of the Paris police prefecture in 1831, he was dismissed the same year and appointed State Councilor on September 17, 1831. In 1833, he was elected deputy for Aisne to replace Niay, who had resigned. He was re-elected deputy several times (1834, 1837, 1839, 1842, 1846 and 1848). Under Thiers, he was appointed Minister of Justice and Worship (March 1-October 29, 1840). On October 13, 1848, he was appointed Minister of Public Works and left his portfolio when Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte became President of the Republic.
