Obverse description : Faisceau de licteur duquel sort une main de justice, entouré de deux cornes d’abondance ; à l’exergue MDCCCXLVIII, le tout dans une couronne de chêne.

Commentary
La médaille a été décernée à Louis-Olivier Bourbeau (1811-1877) représentant du peuple à l'Assemblée constituante de 1848, d’où cette médaille, député au Corps législatif de 1869 à 1870, ministre, sénateur en 1876. Avocat puis professeur de procédure civile et de législation criminelle à la Faculté de droit de Poitiers, il sera maire de Poitiers sous Louis-Philippe. Louis-Napoleon was elected on December 10, 1848 as the first President of the Second Republic. He did not have the right to run again in 1852. Louis-Napoleon decided to make a coup planned for December 2, 1851, the anniversary of the coronation of the Eagle and the commemoration of the Battle of Austerlitz. The coup is ratified by a plebiscite on December 21 with more than 7.5 million YES and only 640,000 NO. Victor Hugo went into exile on December 12. The following year, he will publish "Napoléon le Petit" which will earn Louis-Napoleon, who has become Napoleon III in the meantime, this famous sentence: "Napoleon le Petit by Victor le Grand".
