Commentary

La médaille a été décernée à Auguste Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély (1794-1870) maréchal de France qui fut député de la harente-Maritime de 1848 à 1851, puis sénateur de 1852 à 1870. Au cours de sa carrière militaire, il commanda la 1re division du corps expéditionnaire de la Méditerranée en 1849. Ministre de la Guerre en janvier 1851, Il commanda la Garde impériale de 1856 à 1869. Il est fait maréchal de France en récompense de sa conduite à la bataille de Magenta en juin 1859.
Sous la Seconde République, il est nommé général de brigade, puis général de division le 10 juillet 1848. Il est ensuite représentant du peuple à l'Assemblée législative, ce qui lui permettra de recevoir cette médaille ; grand-officier de la Légion d'honneur le 12 juillet 1849 ; il commande la 1re division du corps expéditionnaire de la Méditerranée en 1849.

The medal was awarded to Auguste Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély (1794-1870), Marshal of France, who was a deputy for Harente-Maritime from 1848 to 1851, then a senator from 1852 to 1870. During his military career, he commanded the 1st division of the Mediterranean expeditionary force in 1849. Minister of War in January 1851, he commanded the Imperial Guard from 1856 to 1869. He was made Marshal of France in recognition of his conduct at the Battle of Magenta in June 1859. Under the Second Republic, he was appointed Brigadier General, then Division General on July 10, 1848. He was then a representative of the people in the Legislative Assembly, which allowed him to receive this medal; Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor on July 12, 1849; He commanded the 1st Division of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in 1849. cf.
