Obverse description : Allégorie féminine de la République, assise sur un fauteuil timbré d’un pendule, drapée à l’antique et casquée, tenant un faisceau d’une main et un bâton coiffé d’un bonnet. Signé : DUV.

Reverse legend : À L’EXERGUE : LA VACCINE / MDCCCIV.

Reverse description : Femme nue à côté d’un Heracles barbu, drapé à l’antique, tenant une massue où s’enroule un serpent. à gauche une vache et à droite une équerre. Signé : ANDRIEU F et DENON DIR..

Commentary

Médaille décernée à monsieur Vannaque, docteur-médecin à Compiègne en 1847.
Notons que la médaille est datée de 1847 sur la tranche mais que le motif de l’avers, une représentation féminine de la République, indique que la période de fabrication correspond à la deuxième république.
Medal awarded to Mr. Vannaque, doctor in Compiègne in 1847. Note that the medal is dated 1847 on the edge but that the motif on the obverse, a female representation of the Republic, indicates that the period of manufacture corresponds to the Second Republic
