Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809-1865) est un un polémiste, journaliste, économiste, philosophe et sociologue français. Précurseur de l’anarchisme, il est surtout un théoricien révolutionnaire issu du milieu ouvrier. Il chercha à mettre en place la banque du peuple. C’était « la formule financière, la traduction en langage économique, du principe de la démocratie moderne, la souveraineté du Peuple, et de la devise républicaine, Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité ». Elle n’a jamais commencé ses opérations mais elle fonctionna pendant l’hiver 1848-1849 comme un centre de réflexion des différentes forces sociales.
