Commentary

La médaille a été décernée au conseiller municipal, Étienne Chaboud. Fabricant de la soierie lyonnaise, il fut trésorier de la Société des Mutuellistes du Devoir Mutuel ainsi que de la Société de Surveillance et d’Indications mutuelles. Il sera nommé membre de la commission municipale au moment de la révolution de Février 1848 et sera à la tête du club central qui fédéra 144 sociétés populaires de lyon et sa banlieue.

The medal was awarded to municipal councilor Étienne Chaboud. A Lyon silk manufacturer, he was treasurer of the Société des Mutuellistes du Devoir Mutuel as well as the Société de Surveillance et d'Indications mutuelles. He was appointed a member of the municipal commission at the time of the February Revolution of 1848 and headed the central club that united 144 popular societies in Lyon and its suburbs.
