DAUPHINÉ - DOLPHINS OF VIENNA - CHARLES V

(1349-1364)

Humbert II (1333-1349) succeeded Guigues VIII in 1333. From 1343, he met serious financial difficulties forced him to sell the Dauphiné to the king of France, an operation carried out before the death of Philip VI. The first dolphin is Charles (1337-1380), the eldest son of John II and Judith of Luxembourg. It was decided that henceforth all seniors son of kings wear this distinctive title.
