Historical background

CORNELIA SUPERA

253

Cornelia Supéra is absent from all historical sources, except coins. Its existence is known to us only by the very rare coins in its name. Before the 19th century, some scholars considered that Cornélia Supera must have been the wife of Valérien. Eckhel, the father of modern numismatics, decisively proved that the mint of the coins in the name of Cornelia Supera is identical to that of the coins of Emilian. He thus proved that Cornelia Supera was Emilien's wife. Each coin in the name of Cornelia Supéra is therefore a historical monument of great importance..
