Historical background

CONSTANTINE VII PORPHYROGENITUS

(6/06/913-9/11/959)

Romanus I, Constantine VII and Christoph

Constantin VII was born in 905 in the purple that his nickname recalls. Emperor in 913, he did not reign alone until 944. Roman I, associated with the empire since 920, was deposed by his two surviving sons Stephen and Constantine on December 16, 944. The two co-emperors were in turn eliminated by Constantin VII on January 27, 945. The son of Leo VI then reigned alone for the first time since 913. On April 6, 945, he joined his son, Roman II, who succeeded him on his death and reigned until 963.
