Historical background

Constantine VII

(6/06/913-9/11/959)

Constantine VII and Romanus II (6/04/945-9/11/959)

Constantine VII was born in 905 in purple that recalls his nickname. Emperor in 913, he will reign alone until 944. Roman I, associated with the empire since 920, was deposed by his two surviving son Stephen and Constantine 16 December 944. The two co-emperors were in turn eliminated by Constantine VII 27 January 945. The son of Leo VI reigns alone for the first time since 913. April 6, 945, he enlists his son, Romanus II, who succeeded him at his death and reigned until 963.
