Commentary

Émission de donativum, constituée de monnaies divisionnaires. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges fines et tombantes visibles de chaque côté. Ce type semble plus rare pour cet atelier. C’est la première fois que nous présentons un exemplaire à la vente.
Donativum issue, consisting of fractional coins. Type 3 ribbons. Thin, drooping pteryges visible on each side. This type seems rarer for this mint. This is the first time we are offering a example for sale.

Historical background

CONSTANTINE II

(1/03/317-04/340)

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
