Commentary

Rubans de type 3, minuscules. Ptétyges fines. Semble plus rare que ne le signalent les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente.
Type 3 ribbons, tiny. Thin ptetyges. Seems rarer than general works indicate. This is the first time we have offered this type for sale.

Historical background

CONSTANTINE II

(1/03/317-04/340)

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
