Commentary

Exemplaire tout à fait extraordinaire avec un buste diadémé pour un césar car ces bronzes sont normalement toujours laurés. Semble complètement inédit et non répertorié. Manque à tous les ouvrages consultés. De la plus grande rareté.
A truly extraordinary example, with a diademed bust for a Caesar, as these bronzes are normally always laureates. It appears to be completely unpublished and unlisted. Missing from all the works consulted. Extremely rare.

Historical background

CONSTANTINE II

(1/03/317-04/340)

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
