Commentary

.
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbons with rounded ends. Thin pteryges under the paludamentum, visible on each side. Eleven vertical rows of stones on the reverse. Pointed turrets. Eight-pointed star (star). No door. Appears completely unpublished and unlisted. Missing from all works. Extremely rare. Enigmatic type combining a right of Caesar with a reverse reserved for Constantine I Augustus

Historical background

CONSTANTINE II

(1/03/317-04/340)

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
