Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin Ier auguste à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A*2).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Constantinus Augustus”, (L’empereur Constantin auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI/ TF|*// PLG.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié, nu le manteau sur l’épaule, debout à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).

Commentary


Poids très léger. Ruban de type 3. La cuirasse est peu visible devant le paludamentum. Au revers les lettres dans le champ T|F pourraient être les initiales de “Temporum Felicitas” pour les temps heureux.
Very light weight. Type 3 ribbon. The breastplate is barely visible in front of the paludamentum. On the reverse, the letters in the T|F field could be the initials of “Temporum Felicitas” for happy times.

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
