Reverse description : Genius (le Génie) nu, le manteau sur l’épaule debout à gauche, tenant une patère de la main droite et une corne d’abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Genio Populi Romani, (Au Génie du Peuple romain).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. P. Ferrando a recensé 12 exemplaires dont huit en musées. Cet exemplaire est illustré dans le mémoire d’A.-M. Schmitt-Cadet.
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbons with pelleted ends. Fine pteryges under the paludamentum. P. Ferrando identified 12 examples, eight of which are in museums. This example is illustrated in the memoir of A.-M. Schmitt-Cadet

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
