Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A2).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Constantinus Augustus”, (L’empereur Constantin auguste).

Reverse legend : SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI/ T|F //ATR.
Reverse description : Sol nu et radié debout à gauche, le manteau sur l'épaule, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (À notre compagnon Sol invaincu).

Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges invisibles sous le paludamentum. Au revers, la signification des lettres F|T n’est pas assurée, mais peut se traduire par “Temporum Felicitas” ou les temps heureux.

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
